Description Plesiomonas shigelloides (formerly known Aeromonas shigelloides) is anfacultatively anaerobic, Gram-negative, oxidase-positive, rod-shaped bacterium which has been isolated from freshwater, freshwater fish, and shellfish and from many types of animals including humans, cattle, goats, swine, cats, dogs, monkeys, vultures, snakes, and toads. It has emerged as a cause of enteric disease in humans, especially following the consumption of raw seafood.
